I love the NHS.

The tinternet is buzzing with tweets, and blogs about the NHS. The American Right (or should that the the American Wrong) Sarah Palin, and a single swivel eyed Tory MEP (odd isn't it that the left are loony and the right are swivel eyed - and teh centre is just wishy washy) seem to be getting their knickers in a twist, all over the fact that the Obama Administration wants to provide them with a basic level of health care and that the NHS is so bad that people are being left to die in hospitals. What an load of utter wank. Even the boss of that over priced corner shop in Kensington - Whole Food Market, appears to be all set against it, maybe he's getting a jaundiced view as I'm sure the only people who can afford to be the junk he sells are the fabulously wealthy of Kensington and Chelsea.

I suspect that no one would claim that the NHS is perfect but it saved my life and that of my mother when I was born, it was fabulous when my grandparent were alive and even when they were near death. My mother, father, uncles have all had fabulous treatment for cancer related illness, I've had wisdom teeth extracted, a number of surgical procedures, all for free. I am able to call the doctor at 8.30 to make an appointment, and will have seen him and be in work by 10.30. Cost nothing except my tax payments. In fact I would be happy to pay a bit more tax if it meant an even better service.

I remember talking to my great Aunt as a small kid, she along with her other siblings had their teeth removed when they reached 13 / 14, because it would be cheaper than having dental treatment later on, my mother who is now the same age as my great Aunt was then has all her own teeth, they are in good nick, - all thanks to the NHS.

There may be one positive result from all this, no political party will be able to enter the election with a manifesto commitment which promises something other than to at least protect the NHS in it's current form
