Fantastic

Although I've not blogged about it much recently, the mainstay of my life over the last 8 years or so has been Duckie. I've mentioned on numerous occasions on how discovering this club changed my life, and if I'm honest the DJs the indomitable London Reader's Wifes definitely deserve to be described as the DJs who saved my life.

On Friday I attended an one of a series of evenings called The Readers Wifes' Fan Club. Amazing is just one word that I could use it describe it. The music as one would expect was excellent.

But what made it was the act. Regular Duckie goers will own at least one album produced by the Wifes and handed out to punters who purchase Gay Shame tickets. The highlight of each Album being gobbets from fils, documentaries, soap operas and old comedies. From Paris is Burning to Carry On, From News Bulletins to adverts from the sixties.

The best known of these ( to the Wife groupie) were used as the basis of an hour or so of performance art, and a TOTP type countdown played out by Dickie Beau, Ryan Styles and Jess Love. I was enraptured by their brilliance from start to finish, and finally got to work out all of the rather threatening phone call made by Big Aggie from Torry. (Google or you tube this if this make no sense)

Almost tempted to go again next Friday, and it certainly has made up for my decision not to go and see Duckie host a night in Lille.

Five stars.
